  • 3100 with 3400 heads

Alright I've got a 95 beretta Z26, when I picked it up the intake gaskets were shot (go figure). There was quite a bit of tapping coming from the top end. So instead of just changing the gaskets I put 01 or 02 3400 heads on. I used stock pushrods, but brand new ones. The heads had 40k miles on them and where perfect. I used stock 3100 head and intake gaskets. The car runs about the same as it did before. Heres my problem, still makes a ton of noise up top, is it possible for water and oil to mix long enough to wear out a cam and nothing else? Also I plan on just rebuilding it anyway any ideas or suggestions for building a hi-perf N/A engine?

noise is probably the lifters... but rockers or cam aren't out of the question

could be the lifters but most likely the cam bearings are shot.. your best bet is to pull it out and look for damage.

The cam is usually the first to go when the LIM fails. I've seen many of them break into 2 and 3 pieces when the bearings seize.
