  • 2.8- 3.4 ?

    Hello, I'm swapping a 2.8 for a 3.4 and I have a couple of questions,

first, is I'm going to use the 2.8 timing cover if I use that and the 2.8s harmonic balancer will the timing marks be the same as it was on the 2.8. and are there any differences in the balancers timing marks

second, is which flex plate should I use the one that came with the 3.4 or the one from the 2.8

    2.8 is a 1985 camaro

    3.4 is out of a 1995 camaro

    Thanks for you help

If you are using all your 85 accessories then yes you must swap over the front cover. Use the corresponding balancer but you can use the late model one as well. I believe it still has the same timing marks. Just visually compare the two and use the one that is in the best condition. If they both show cracking on the rubber ring or a deep groover on the seal surface they will need replacement.

Use the 3.4L Flexplate. You must use one that is for an internally balanced engine.
