  • Which FWD pistons to use in a 3.4/3400 hybrid?

I have a 95 3.4 that I am just about to purchase all of my internals for. I plan on using a set of aluminum heads from a 02 Grand Am. I know I need to use dished pistons but there are several dishes available. Which dish do I need? I would like to keep my compression in the 9's so I can run pump gas...

Also, does anyone have an opinion on Mahle pistons?

Just to clarify a couple of points, I saw a thread (elsewhere) indicating that you must use the same dish as the motor the heads came from. I was TOLD my heads came from a 2002 Grand Am but I can't prove that. I have also seen a post that indicates there was a flat tappet motor that used the Gen II aluminum heads so custom push rods are not necessary for me to complete my swap...

use 3400 pistons and you'll be fine. then you'll be stock of what a 3400 is...

I would still check your rod length to make sure your pushrod geometry lines up.

Thanks. That is what I wanted to hear. I would hate to put this thing all the way together just to find out I have to take it COMPLETELY back apart because I put the wrong pistons in!
