  • HELP!!how hard to swap 96 3100 into 96 lumina van?

a friend of mine is really needing a good on gas-reliable van, and i found a 96 lumina van with good trans, but a blown 3400 (gasket failure-what else!!) and my question to you guys is will a 3100 from the same year or from a 97 lumina or otherwise-swap right in no problems? please give input asap before this van is gone so i know what to tell her!!

    thanks, Jon

Yes but it will be down on power some. You can swap the intakes over from the van to help retain some power but the heads will have smaller valves. If the heads don't have rollers, swap over the rollers from the 3400 if it has notches in the head to take them. That will help keep the power up.

Then the only differences would be .3L, smaller intake valve and slight casting differences. Use a metal intake gasket set for a 3100 on it. And swap over the 3400 injectors back over (unless the 3100 ones are from the same year and are KNOWN to be good like just came from a running vehicle, not one that sat for a while)
