  • 3.1L into 2m4 fiero..let me have it

    I just picked up a 1984 Fiero 2m4 4speed -m.
    I found a 3.1L with 30,000 in it
comes with the harness & ecu
Now I understand that there are 3.4 4.3 350 383 3.8 and 3.8sc swaps that can be done.
But I have a set amount of cash and the 3.1 would make me happy enough.

My question is..does the 3.1-2.8 block mount right up to the stock 4 speed manual trans I have in the car?

And any other info on this swap would be a huge help.
    thanks

Yes the trans bolt pattern is identical. You can use everything from the 2.8L on the 3.1L

    1990 4Door, 3.2L V6 TBI, 5spd manual. 4X4. Trooper

You'll have to modify the cradle to put a v6 in place of the iron duke because of different engine mount arrangements. Lots of threads on PFF discuss the swap.

I was told that the motor mounts are the same due to the fact that the 2.8 was an option. no?
and as for that other forum ..Its great but I couldnt find a 3.1 swap on there.
So any help you guys can give me is awesome.
So other than motor harness and ecu what will I need?

Here's a thread on swapping in a 2.8 for a 2.5. A 3.1 isn't too different from a 2.8 swap unless you want to switch over to a DIS ignition...

V6 wiring harness is different from the 2.5. Did you get the wiring harness and engine computer with the 3.1?

Edit - duh reread your first post, you have the harness and ECM

So this shouldnt be that hard at all.
now will the front harness of the 2.5 plug into a 3.1L ecm?
Oh and tiredGXP great link thank you.
Also what about the fuel pump?

Iron Duke fuel pump runs at a way lower pressure. You'll need at least a 2.8 MFI pump.

You can probably save yourself a lot of headaches by grabbing a 2.8 cradle. Don't forget the exhaust on a Fiero can be a nightmare to fabricate.
