I'm finally getting around to posting some pics. I pulled the engine last week.

3400 heads ready to go to the machine shop.



Anyone interested in a paper weight with bad bearings?


A few more questions:

1) What's the best gen 2 timing chain? I've searched but a lot of topics seem to come up on gen 3.

2) Whatever the best chain is, is there any trouble running it behind a gen 3 cover. I don't mind having to machine my stock cover down to fit the new PS pump if it lets me run a better chain. It seems like all the timing chain posts I see are about what not to buy.

3) What specific sbc bearings are needed?

I think I have most things ordered. Still waiting on a few items. GMpartsdirect sucks, just have to throw that out there again. Took 6 weeks to tell me they couldn't order my cam, and it's been 2 weeks since that and they still haven't shipped my remaining order.

Got the heads back from the machine shop and onto the 2.8 block.



Got the exhaust manifolds ported to match the D-shaped ports and wrapped.




see if you can figure out which one I started on upside-down...oops

I have 3 out of 4 cam bearings reinstalled, just decided what I want to do about the front bearing.

Waiting on the cam, should be here in the next few days, then I can really get going on it.

I seem to remember hearing that you should soak the lifters in oil before you put them in, is this true?

Base circle of the new cam lobes 1.200 -1.205 if anyone cares.

Looks like I will be assembling things tomorrow.

I dont think i can be of any help to you but im wondering what ecm/eprom your using with the tgp stuff, is it intercooled and how are you controlling the boost

it couldn't hurt...

that and you'll probably want to pull the fuse for the fuel pump, crank the motor for a good 10 seconds, replace the fuse and then try to fire it, that way you get oil almost everywhere it needs to go.

It runs!!!! Fired it up for the first time today. Still have to finish welding the exhaust past the cat. Only had it running for a few minutes, since it's 10 at night, I live in the suburbs, and it's loud as hell. I have to finish breaking in the cam tomorrow, and I'll post a vid if I have time. I'm considering doing a write-up if there is enough interest. Mostly applies to the TGP crowd, but it would help any first gen W body that wants to go turbo a hybrid. More to follow tm.

Yeah, just and idle video for now with the exhaust 75% done, 3" to the rear axle assembly and over it, but no muffs/tips. I'm having some self-induced electrical problems that are holding me up right now. Should be back to flogging the hell out of it soon.
