  • what is necessary to put a 3x00 into a camaro/s10?

what all would be required in order for the transmission/engine to bolt together? (not talking about small odds & ends-im talking about big things). im also talking about 80's camaros/s10s that have 2.8/4.3/5.0/5.7-if i got one with a good transmission/everyting & wanted to put a 3100 or 3400 in it what would be necessary?

    thanks

Tubular k member will help, otherwise:

Modifying the oil pan/frame for clearance,

starter reloaction (or hacking the bell housing),

oil filter relocation (if you leave the starter on the drivers side),

    custom motor mounts,

custom accy brackets no matter which accy mounts you decide,

then you have the small things like the fuel rail connections, throttle cable, ECM mod to run DIS, tuning, exhaust etc...

The plan is to put a 3500 in my car eventually, but for now, I'm using a 3500 top end and a 3.4 bottom end in mine.

In an S-series you will need to either modify the oil pan, or modify the crossmember.

When I was going to install the 3500 in my Jimmy (1985) I was going to cut out the crossmember and make a tubular brace across the area, to clear the oil pan. I have since decided to go another direction with the truck, otherwise I'd have the mounts and everything else half done or done my now.

There isn't an easy way to "move the starter" as in using the RWD location, the block doesn't have enough material to drill for the RWD starter location. Oil filter relocate and modify the bellhousing is the best option. I had planned on putting my relocated oil filter where the RWD starter would have been, to make it easy to get to and vertical so that I could pre-fill the filter at changes.

I was looking at retaining the original 2.8 mounts (on the frame) but I think in hindsight it would be better to even change those. Not sure how the new mounts would look exactly but I have some ideas.

You would need to use the RWD water pump and front cover to have the TB at the front of the engine.

ECM swap to a '7730/'7727 with $A1 would be the easiest. using S_AUJP would be a step up for tuning, since it has WBO2 feed through for AFR display in the datalog along with expanded upper VE tables. $59 will be best to use for forced induction or when we get the 1 BAR version done $59 will be the ultimate code for N/A or forced induction use.

The hardest part is mounting the FWD engine, after that it's easy. The top end swap has been done in a few RWD vehicles, I believe I am still the onle person to have a 3x00 top end in an S-series.

thanks for your help but u lost me at '7730... lol im not looking for loads of performance-im just curious as to how bad it would be to put in a 3100 or 3400 into an 80's maro or bird-ta, etc... does anyone make mounts for this swap?

'7730, '7727, and other numbers that I might mention like this are in reference to the ECM service numbers. It will be one of these ECMs that you will need for this swap.

No, no one makes mounts. I was going to, but since I decided not to install my 3500, I haven't gone any farther than planning and starting mocking up some ideas. I do have a jig, that bolts to the block that mimicks the S-series engine mount location. If there really was enough interest I could continue on with the mounts, but wouldn't be until the spring at the earliest, too many other projects to get out of the way first.

I don't know how similar Trooper mounts are to S10 (if similar at all), I'm interested in that. I think my trouble will be at the drivers side mount. Pics here:
