I got a parts car, or it was supposed to be, a 1992 acheiva, I just wanted parts of the interior for my v-8 acheiva project, well, the wife looked at it and loved the pretty blue, she wants the car. So now I'm out a parts car, it was cheap so no big deal right? Well it came with a shitty 3 spd auto and a 2.3 SOHC 4cyl. which had thrown a timing chain and smacked all the valves. So I say, "ok hunny, I'll fix it, but I'll fix it better and put in a real Quad 4 and get you a 4-speed auto, it'll be quicker and get the same if not better gas mileage." So off to a junkyard I go, I find a 2.4L quad 4 from a '99 malibu which also had a 4T45, I think, so I got the whole motor, trans, harness, and comp, real cheap, $160. I bring it home, i strip out the acheiva, I drop the motor and trans in right on top of the subframes, of course only 1 out of 4 mounts atch, no big deal, I can fabricate them. Electrical, Not too worried about it, I had a 2003 motor in my other 95 acheiva for a while, made that work great, axles......oops.
The spline count on the transmission side is the same, cool. The seals are a differant story, one side looks like the ID of the seal is the same, the other side the ID of the seal is about an 1/8" too big to hit the axle cup.
Why is it so hard to get parts cross-referance information!? Every junkyard in the USA has them, you'd think I'd be able to atleast find info to BUY the info. NO.
So, Anyone got seal info? I also think the 4T45 is longer than the p.o.s. 3 spd I pulled out, judgeing this on the bracket that goes from the block to the transon the passenger side, seems to be 2-3 inches longer, so I also am concerned about passenger axle legnth. Any info would be great, it was a $300 car, I need to keep this cheap, its just got to make it 6 months!
Oh BTW, the info on the VATS worked great, from the other post about my olds 88 getting the 4.0L swap, so thx a ton on that.
