  • air pump motor to a non

hey guys ive done some searching and i think i figured this out. i own a 2000 grand am gt with the secondary air pump. my motor is pretty tierd so i wanna replace it with a newer 3400. obviously the newer 3400s heads dont have the air pump setup. so im gonna have mpr tune my pcm for a 2000 that didnt have the air pump. then swap in the new motor. does this sound right or im i gonna run into any other issues.

The AIR system does not have anything to do with the heads. The AIR system on all the modern FWD cars were electric and pumped right into the Cat Converter.

that is true. the system runs for like 10 seconds when you start the car up.

you can take the air stuff off the motor if the car its going into doesnt have it and just find the appropriate plug for the hole.

PM 3400-95-modified he had some heads that had those holes in them and he plugged them up.

Are we talking about the same thing? I was talking about the A.I.R system for emissions control. That's what I thought the question was about anyway.

maybe i cant find one now but im trying to find a pic. if you look at the froint of the car theres 3 tubes going into the cyl head right next to the spark plugs and then a long tube running the length of the eginne.

Yes air system goes into exhaust ports, 2 of the three to add more oxygen to the mix to make the converter work better, and yes it only runs for like 10 min at first startup.

Let me find the pix of what I did to my air heads to make them work on a non air car.

                Edit, Images

I realize my post is irrelevant tho, since you are putting a non air motor in a air car... so um yeah, my parts dont help no one. LOL

Would a 2001 ECM without AIR just drop in and work?

should... minus maybe the theft lock stuff... not sure how that all works on that year.

Or if he decided to keep it, run the A.I.R. into the exhaust manifolds. That's the way the DOHC cars had it set up. I removed mine when I put the p&p heads on the 92 and welded the holes in the manifolds shut and disabled it in the ECM.

Honestly, I would pull the equipment out if you have someone in the area that can disable it in the PCM so it doesn't throw a code or do like Isaac suggested and find out about swapping in a non A.I.R. PCM to make it all kosher.
