  • what if i build this ????

So if i take these parts and build this ?

    Parts year

    1. lower 3400 intake 2000 +

    2. upper 3500 intake 2000 +

    3. head assembly including push rods , lifters, rockers , cam 3500 2000+

    4. 3100 block 2000+ with a 2.8 crank with the correct height pistons to fit stroke & tq. bore & honed .030 over

    5. zero deck the block and shave the heads .020 so you "HAVE A CLEAN SURFACE TO TO WORK WITH" but still use a head gasket of .060 compressed

    6. stock 3500 exhaust manifolds wraped along with crossover down to the converter

    7. high vol 20 % high psi oil pump

I don't think I left any thing out did I ? also I would like to start this really soon or this fall since fall really close!

well.. first off you can't use 3500 heads on a 3100 block, the combustion chambers are too large for the small bore.

2nd off you can't use a 3400 LIM on 3500 heads, the port shapes and heights are way different.

high volume oil pumps are a bad idea, they can cause serious oil starvation.

If you stick with the 2000+ 3100 heads or any year 3400 heads it would work. Your best bet would be to just buy a complete '00+ 3100 and then find a good 2.8 bottom end to go in that, depending on the compression you want either a set of FWD (8.9:1 with .060 gaskets or about 9:1 with .040 gaskets) or RWD Camaro/S10 (about 11:1 with .060 gaskets and close to 12:1 with .040 gaskets).

I'm planning on building a "2800" as well to put in a daily driver to save on gas.

"1991 Cavalier Z24 5 speed; '04 3500-LX9 swap, .539/.549, 288/293 adv roller cam, longtube headers, lots of P&P, Comp 26915 springs, Hybrid lifters (3500/LT1), 75mm TB, true duals, Hooker Aerochamber mufflers. Ostrich 2.0/WMS wideband/1227730 FTW!
      13.08 @ 105.5 MPH 275 WHP/316 HP"
this is a really nice setup that's 316 hp at the crank right ? you lost 43 hp due to drive train? is that right & is that normal? & thanks for the info the 3100 2000+ hunt is on & that should not be to hard with the p&p 60 miles round trip to my south.

        Thanks

Yep, about 15% loss in a manual tranny...
