  • la1(3400) swap in a malibu

now, i know this swap has been done before. what i need is the 411 cuz as soon as my car hits 100k, i will be attempting to do this, currently i have 70k on a 2001 malibu lg8 v6(3100 ). i will be with in the year or so i think because i put almost 25k in less than 1.5yrs. anyways. i work further and wil go to school further knw here are my Q's and i need your A's

    1. is the 3400 a dirrect swap into my mali
    2. will i be able to work the same computer
    3. the same axles
    4. same wiring stuff
    5. same emmission stuff
    6. same mounts

of course i will get the tranny with the engine when i do get it

    7. will i have to re-wire anything
    8. same harness
    9.
anything else that i am missing

also, this will be done with ported everything and all the good stuff IN the engine that i hear you can put into it to make it stonger. is this swap necessary, or can i just do all the engine mods to my current engine(3100) and get the same results since i here that they are basically the same engine block( that is what i hear every where i ask concernig the headers for th 3400 to the 3100)

oh ,, shiznit, this loos like an essay, my bad, its just that i want to do this swap but have no experience with swaps. my bro works for rydell chevy as a tech., but he is a malibu hater so he wont tell me sh*t, but i know he will help me with the swap...................he better

    thanx

It will be a pretty close to direct swap might have a few problems with the emmisions stuff depending on the year of the 3400. The problem with the swap is you will not notice much of an increase in power. Since your car is newer then 2000 the power of your car is within 5hp of the 3400. So unless you already have the 3400 ported and everything I would say the swap is not worth it. If I am wrong with any of this please someone correct me, but I am 99% that is the way it will be.

the folks at n-body.net told me its a dirrect swap with no mods needed. they also told me that i could use the old tranny, the 4t40e. but my question is wht tranny is stronger. the 4t40e or the 4t45e, even if its a slight diff let me know please. cuz i am going to try and get the engine with the tranny tanx

The swap is direct if your talking the same year motor (as in post 2000). The 4t45Eis stronger. It will handle 15 more rated foot pounds.

I also do not recommend this swap. The power difference will be small for the money you will spend. Unless you need an engine replacement look into modding the 3100.
