  • Change Z34 to 3100SFI

Hi, I would like to swap the 3.4DOHC in my 92 Z34 Lumina to a 3100SFI from a 95 Grand Prix. Is this possible and what all do I have to change to do this? If I didnt word this right, I want to install the 3100SFI into my 92 Lumina Z34.

not too hard to do physically. The 3100 will use a different transmission. Physically, it will bolt right up, but internally it is different. I think the older 4T60-E can be rewired to work on the newer PCM, but I have not tried it yet.

Only real issue is some of the cooling lines, AC compressor, and minor brackets, and the exhaust downpipe is different.

There is more, but it is not too hard to do.

      Change Z34 to 3100SFI

Will the tranny from the grand prix bolt right in also or will the tranny mount fom the Grand Prix bolt into the Z34? If I could bolt in the tranny and 3100 in together, I would be happy with that. Would it work? Any help you could give me would surely be appreciated. Oh, one more question, will the harness from the Grand Prix plug into the Z34 at the firewall or will it have to be modified also?
      Thanks, Rich

physically (externally), your transmissions will be ALMOST identical. physically, you can use either, but you need to consider which computer you are going with. If you use the 3100 computer, then you need the 3100 comptuer.

You can get the car to work on the older computer as well, but it is going to come down to what you want to do.

As for the wiring, I recommend getting the complete setup, but you will have to do some work if you do that. Your easiest option will be to use the older computer setup. There is 2 or 3 connectors near the ECM that you can swap out the engine harnesses there.
