  • 3x00 Service Manual/Reference

What manual(s) would be good to have around for rebuilding and wiring a hybrid 3.4/3x00? Wiring diagrams, torque specs, etc.

One of these days I'll get it all transferred over to the new CMS...

Sweet! That'll help. I also ordered a Haynes manual for '97-'03 Malibu/Alero/Cutlass/Grand Am.

When I do things, I normally get the book for the YEAR of the ECM that I am going to use, a book for the year of the TRANNY that I am going to use, and then go from there.

The last book I would get would be one for the platforms of the cars that are going to be used in. Example would be if I was using a 3400 from an Alero, and going to put it in my Cutlass Supreme, then I would get the 3400 ALERO book for the engine itself (not doing a hybrid, but a swap), and then I would get one for my Cutlass Supreme so I could see how the mounting is different.

The Engines are mounted differently in each car, so you want something that will cover chassis as well. At least, that is how I do it. Besides, I like having a lot of books so I can help other people out if they need it. I also like going over the wiring diagrams.

That's a waste of money.. :S The Haynes will have some decent information in it, but there have been many a times on here that people follow a Haynes manual and end up asking questions because something wasn't covered properly.

There is always an AllData account, although it costs to add additional vehicles. I've had an account for years, and use it all the time.

True, true. At least it's not a lot of money, and it has pictures. :P I have some misc manuals for my Trooper and the Camaro/Firebird already, and they've gotten me this far.

How much does AllData cost? I'm merely a hobbyist. I may or may not be able to justify it.

The initial account (vehicle) is $20 for 1 year. Each additional vehicle after that (and any resubscriptions) are $15. $25 will get you 3 years (resub or additional vehicle).

I have been going to the local library for books on the cars I am working on lately. All I spend is the time and gas to get me there, unless I turn it in late of course :P
