Greetings,
Cool site, don't hate the new guy. I've been visiting this site for a year or two and now and I want to finish my Chevette project.
Anyway, the purpose of this exercise is to build a 13sec. Chevette for $1000.
Of course,it's give and take,I can tell you a couple of neat things about Chevettes, and maybe, you can tell me which engine I should look for to complete this project.
First of all,as engine swaps go,I need to make motor mounts,so FWD or RWD is of little concern,as is the bellhousing/torque converters.
Anyway, after several visits to this site,I have determined that I should look for a "GenIII 3400" with a full roller valvetrain? Yes???
I already know that the oil pan and timing cover should match and I must use Camaro/S-10 accessory drives and Aluminum heads are not drilled for RWD accessories.
OK,for you Chevette guys, you probably already know about putting Isuzu Impulse front brakes on a Chevette.
The spindle and the tie rods, they bolt on.
The Fatter Isuzu rear axle requires a little bit of cutting/welding on the torque tube mount, aside from that,it's abolt in,and usually has a sway bar on it.
The only problem is that a posi costs $1400.
The Monza/late Vega rear end is a GM 7.5",you have to replace(welding) all of the mounts an it's a drum brake.
Junkyard posi's are available.
Some people put S-10 rears in Chevettes, but that's just dangerous. They cut the leaf spring.
Well,if I go to the pick and pull, what's the best all around torque motor?(EFI/SFI)
THanks,Lawrence
