  • Missing!!!!

For the past week know, my 89 cavalier has had an ignition problem. When it first started to miss it wasn't doing it to much, now the problem has progressed. It has been a month since I put the 3400 and a five speed in it. When I got the car out I put new coils, plugs, and wires on the car. Today I used the ohm meter and checked the coils and the fuel injectors.......everything tested out fine? I went to the local gas station and picked up some fuel injector cleaner and I let it run for almost 30 minutes, and it still misses. If it doesn't stop missing after this tank of gas I won't be sure what to do.........I am stumped?

P.S. The only other thing I think it could be is valve spring????

Yes, I checked that yesterday. I also checked the ICM and that was all good. I also realized that it doesn't miss at idle, it only misses under a load or when I am taking off and sometimes it smooths out.........fuel pump?

sounds like a spark plug or a sticking/clogged injector to me...

            what injectors are you using?

I will check the plugs again today, is there any other way that I can check the injectors?

The motor was warm so they where around 13.5?I also just got done pulling each plug again....and there was nothing wrong with any of them. They all looked good and they all had the right gap.

Man this is bugging the hell out of me......I have never had this hard of a time trouble shooting things? And what makes it worse is that it won't miss for a couple minutes, then it will miss for twenty minutes.

The only time I have experienced anything like this.........it was a cracked ignition wire that arc'd only under load........try starting it up in the dark and lifting the hood and see id you can see the arc............sounds crazy but thats how I found mine on # 2.

And spray some water from a squirt bottle/sprayer while it's running on the wires and that will also tell you if you got bad wires. It will run worse after you do that if that's your problem.

Your right that did sound crazy.......but that damn crazy idea worked, the number 2 wire has an arc that shoots down the whole out side of the wire. So what the hell do I do now though? I have already replace the plug wires and it still does it with the old ones on too? Do I need new wires again....they are life time?
