  • 94 Cutlass swap options

Last year I picked up a pretty clean 3.4 DOHC Cutlass with the intention to use it for experimenting. The wife really likes the car and wants it for her daily work car. My original plan was to install the rebuilt long block that came with the car came but now I'm considering swapping to a newer engine and transmission. I have narrowed my choices down to a LX9, LZ9 or LS4. Although it would be more work, I am leaning towards doing the 5300 swap even though it isn't a 60V6. I think the 5300 would be fun to play with after she gets tired of it.

    Opinions anyone?

3900 or LS4 for sure. The 3900 would drop in with the mounts and everything ok I've heard, and could be tuned with OBDII swap. (unless DOHC cars in 94 still had PROM based ECM, then you could tune that??)

LX9 Has been done before, and typically good for the smaller cars. Since you have a w-body, might as well put a 3900 in there since it fits and have more power and break new ground. The LS4 would be nice too, but not sure what the ECM controlling it would work out. DoD I've heard can be defeated with swapping out the lifters and valley cover.
