Well a whole bunch of engine functions may become disabled. I am not certain exactly what will happen. You don't need to find the ECM from a manual trans car. You could just find a chip or have a chip burned for you.

I am not sure what engine functions would be affected by a transmission sensor. I know on 4th gen maximas (what i am used to working on) it will just be a matter of having a check engine light on for a missing transmission sensor but it does not affect performance, you just would not be able to pass inspection.

You can find plenty of them on eBay if you need to go that route. I had an AT ECU for my swap, but I picked up a MT one before I started it.

'96 LR Range Rover 4.6 HSE - suspiciously reliable
'92 Volvo 740 Wagon - former parts car, now daily-driver beater
'71 Opel Kadett Wagon - 1.9L CIH w/ Weber DGV 32/36, in bits

I have finally drained the fluids in my jeep and I am ready to move forward with the swap. I have a question about the flywheel though. I know I can have the one that I have neutrally balanced but can I pick up another one that is already neutrally balanced? If that is the case would this one work with no modifications? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MANUA...3756.m20.l1116

This may be a quicker and possibly cheaper option than waiting on a machine shop. Let me know what you guys think.

I just bought a new one from partsamerica.com, I think they have a core charge on some of them (I never sent mine in, oops).

I am looking forward to seeing how your swap turns out. Planning on doing the same in my 85 xj in a few months. I've got an automatic though so not sure how i am going to handle that.

which one should I buy though? I know I need one that is neutrally balanced...what years would that be? Also will the bolt circle line up with no problem? ^^ Do you have a link to the one you got? Was your trooper motor balanced internally or externally?

My Trooper is a '90, so it is new enough to have a neutrally balanced flywheel. I bought whatever was recommended on the website.

                    I got this: http://www.partsamerica.com/productd...pe=267&PTSet=A

ok that one says 142 teeth, the one that is for the cherokee http://www.partsamerica.com/productd...pe=267&PTSet=A says it has 148 teeth. I am guessing this is a problem. Does anyone know which neutrally balanced flywheel I can use?

that one is listed as fitting the 2.8 FI Camaro's...so does anyone know if it will fit my 2.8 jeep with no mods? Will my starter work on this?

You may want to be looking at the machine shop again. I really don't know.

I'll see what any one else has to say. I do not have the engine out yet, but I hope to have it out in a week or so, so I would just like to know by then.

I worked on it for a little bit tonight. I have taken out the radiator, evaporator/dryer, E-fan, all the drive belts, alt., and ps pump. I am taking pictures along the way I will post a few up when I have made some more progress.

Also I realized I have a broken exhaust bolt in one of the heads. What have you guys done to get these out? I tried using one of those bolt out kits but I ended up breaking the thing off in the hole, so now I have a flush stud again I am thinking about just taking the engine to a shop and having them get it out. Do you guys know of another way I can try with out taking the head off?

If you have broken and easy out off in the bolt then you pretty much limited yourself to welding a piece of metal to the stud and trying to get it out. Welding something on will also rapidly heat the broken stud hopefully breaking it free. My Trooper also has a broken bolt on the exhaust manifold where the PS pump bracket mounts.
