awesome, thats good enough for me, I know its possible cause I've heard of lots of guys having it work out fine, i guess the guys who had it work didnt change the lifters. I just didnt fel right about doing it until I had an explaination as to why it would or wouldnt work, now that i have an idea what to expect I can tear into it. probly end of febuary, begining of march, I'll document with lots of pics.

Be sure when you do that if you have a feeling that someing NO MATTER HOW MINOR is not quite right, do NOT continue what you are doing. STOP IMMEDIATLY and find out why you feel that way.

I ignored that feeling when I did the custom 3100 in my 1988 Cutlass Supreme, and I ended up bending every valve in the heads, and giving myself some nice custom VALVE RELIEFS in the pistons. Turns out my TIMING WAS OFF, and when the lifters pumped up, the valves hit the piston.

Ive rebuild quite a few motors before but they were all OHC so this hole push rod thing is new to me.

Yeah run all the 3.1mpfi stuff except the rockers. Should be able to run the roller rockers no problem if the rest of the stuff is good. Turn the motor slowly over by hand and feel and verify everything. Not sure if the old rockers will bolt up. Plus the older aren't roller and are 1.5 instead of 1.6

im pretty sure the 1.6 will bolt up cause the TGP guys go the other way and bolt the 1.6 to the 3.1 heads so I'd assume the 1.5 would fit the 3100 heads if i had to go that route. But i'm pretty confident it will work with all 3.1 stuff and 3100 lifters.
but nothings 100% until i bolt it together and it runs.

There are two different 1.6 3x00 rockers. 94-95 ball & pivot, and 96+ Roller fulcrum... And then also in 2003?? and up the rocker studs went from 10mm to 8mm on the heads...

You'll have to run your old lifters.. not the 3100 ones...

yeah, i have a 95 3100 so i have the ball & pivot rockers. and i knew about the lifters, that was stated above, thats why some guys have it work and others dont.

Hmm. Well seems you are all lined up to try it with the 3100 heads & hardware, and the 3.1mpfi cam lifter pushrods... I take it the 3.1mpfi has pushrod guides?

Not sure if you are still doing 3400 intakes, but if you do you'll need to grind the lower to clear the ball/pivot rockers as they hit the intake. the roller dont. You can swap to roller only if the head has notches for them where the studs are.
