  • FWD to RWD Fantasy Swap

Has anybody considered putting the entire FWD assembly in the back seat area of their FWD car? I've been fantasizing about this for a while and am curious if anybody has done it.

I saw a Corvair guy did one using a transverse Northstar assembly into the back seat area of his 2 door coupe. My car is an '04 Monte Carlo SS and would really be sweet with either the 5.3 V8 or the new 3.9 V6, 6 speed auto and paddle shifters. Would be quite the sleeper if I could afford to do it.

There was a Northstar caddy in the Detroit area, had a Northstar in the front and back. A buddy of mine in Toledo had it in for a paint job. I'll have to check him out and see if he has some pics. I took a OldsToranado drivetrain and built a dune buggy out of it. Bad as hell, all that weight on the back you could wheelie on demand but it couldn't keep up with a well built air cooled VW engine. Too damn heavy.

Actually, I realize I wasn't very clear in my original post. What I'd like to do is remove the front engine altogether and put it or something else (higher HP)in the rear to create a mid engine vehicle, like the Porsche Boxter.

reguardless of what you say, that link that I showed you, it shows a Cutlass Supreme with an engine in the rear. Going from that, you could easily do it. The only difference is that you would not have an engine in the front.
