        Is that just the DoD version in the Impala SS? I know that one they made the block shorter too to fit better transverse.

        Or does the truck LS4 have the same pattern?

          The Grand Prix GXP's have the shorter ones too. Hmmm...I wonder if my dad would miss his....

            The LS4 is a smaller 5.3 L (325 inł) version of the Generation IV block. Though it has the same displacement as the Vortec 5300 LH6, it differs in that it has an aluminum block rather than an iron one and it uses the same cylinder head as the Generation III LS6 engine.

            A version of this engine is adapted for transverse front-wheel drive application. In order to fit into the smaller engine compartments designed for V-6s, the LS4 engine block had to be shortened by one inch. Displacement on Demand is also used. Output of this version is 303 hp (226 kW) and 323 ft·lbf (438 N·m).

            2006-2008 Chevrolet Impala SS
            2006-2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS
            2005-2008 Pontiac Grand Prix GXP
            2008 Buick LaCrosse Super

                    How will you overcome the DoD components?

                    I remember someone swapped a LS1 in their GTP before they came out with the GXP.

                      I'm sure by the time i'd actually get to this swap we'd have it figured out... not gonna happen till atleast '09 if i still have the car then. Besides, i'm making more power with my 3500 then that thing has.

                        It occurs to me that is would be a good candidate for a rear engined swap. Kennedy Engineering has adapters to mate a 60 degree V6 to a VW, Porsche or Corvair transaxle. The starter bolts to the transmission and the engine is pretty lightweight. Just thinking…

                          Actually its the crank that's shorter. And it was shortend on both ends. To remove the DOD you would need to just run regular lifters and replace the valley cover with a regular one.

                              Just swap the lifters? If it's that simple that's awesome. LS4 + 5 Speed swap would be nice for my car
