Hi folks. I have been reading about this dohc 3.4 and would like your opinions about swapping 1996 engine into 1995 car. I have a 1995 monte and would like to know if I should swap the top engine or change to a obd2 system. I am looking for the easiest route possible and can get a 1996 3.4 cheap. ANY advice is appreciated. I am not looking for performance increases just a running vehicle for my 17 year old son. Thanks in advance.

easiest way possible, be4 you swap.
1. completely swap the intake assemblies from the 95 to the 96.
2. remove the oil pressure sensor from the 96 and plug the hole with a plug off of the 95 engine.
3. where your heater hose plugs into that nipple next to the wp pulley- you'll notice the 96 engine has that blocked off. simply remove and switch with the 95 engine.
4. switch the coilpack bracket and coilpacks off of the 95 to the 96 engine
5. switch the valve covers from the 95 to the 96 engine.
6. the only thing that isn't a straight swap is the egr. you'll have to remove both tubes, cut them in half, and have a competent machinist braze or weld the 95 top half to the 96 bottom half.
7. install and enjoy.
other than the egr it is a straight swap, if you already have both engines, performing the swap will only set you back for an intake gasket set and the machine work for the egr.The Official Rotating Mass Nazi
