I HAVE A 1987 CAVALIER RS WITH A 2.8 i WANT TO SWAP A 1998 3.1 FROM A GRAND AM CAN ANYONE GIV ME DIRECTION ON HOW TO DO THIS?

It's not an easy swap to put a FWD motor in the fbodies. The Camaro 3.4 is an easier swap.

Isn't the 87's TBI?? If so, you might need to swap the harnesses to the 88-93 OBD1 harness or just swap to OBD2 if you want dhp. You'll need to fab up an engine mount I'm pretty sure. Other than that & swapping a few parts and making a few adjustments/alterations it should be straight forward.

It must be too earlier for you to be posting, cause nowhere in that thread do I see any mention of an F-Body. Last time I checked, an 87 Cavalier was a J-Body.

Check out www.domesticcrew.com for probably the best writeup on this swap.

If your car has 6 injectors and a maf/speed density setup then your harness is there for you and half your job is done already. Define, "can i use my intake"

Maybe too early, or the caps lock, could have sworn it said Camaro RS

I have the whole 1998 Grand Am so I can use the wiring out of that if it will work. Will the Tranny from the Grand Am fit in the Cavalier it may be a fourspeed auto?

It has six injectors one for each cylinder. I want to know if I can pull the top end off my 2.8 and bolt on to the 3.1. It is a 2 part intake. the top has what I call the throttle body the bottom has the injectors in it.

You will have to do more work than it is worth to make all that work.

Ok you need to do more research. You seem like you have NO idea what you are doing (dont take it the wrong way) . You'd hate to take apart a running or easy fixable car then in the end have to junk it and the donor car because it is way above your head.

you are right I am learning al about this, thabeing said the 2.8 has a cracked block so I have to do something. So you are saying that I should use my old tranny it works fine by the way, and use the fi from the 2.8 to make it easier.
