  • firebird v6 swap

Okay, I have an '86 Firebird that I blew the engine on it. It had a 2.8L with throttle body injection. Now I'm looking at 2.8L out of S10 Blazers and Jimmys. The S10 motors only produce 115hp while the firebird produce 135hp, is that just because of the ECU in the cars or are there some mechanical componets that are different. Also I'm looking at 3.4Ls, will the throttle body injection and manifolds off my 86 2.8L mount to the 3.4L?

    Thanks,

you have multi port fuel injection (1 injector per cylender), throttleb body injection has 1 or 2 injectors mounted above the throttle plate.

the 2.8l pre 85.5 was 110hp, unless it was a high output, then it had 135. the only difference was the heads and cam, this was only the carbed motors. 85.5+ was all fuel injected, the camaro/firebird mpfi being 120hp, and they had they all had the same large valve heads. the only 85.5+ car to get the high output 2.8l was the fiero, it was 140hp, the only difference realy was the cam. the s series trucks got a tbi injected 2.8l, iirc they were still 120hp.

you can bolt a 2.8l from a truck into your car, you will have to swap everything from the lower intake up, but its a direct bolt on. as for the 3.4l, basicly its a bored and stroked 2.8l, everything will bolt onto it without any issues whatsoever

Check to make sure but to my knowledge the Multiport fuel injected cars received the large valve heads and the TBI engines the small valve heads.

the 2.8l ho in the citatio got the larger 1.72/1.42 valves, were the carbed motors got 1.6/1.3. 85.5 was a big change for the 60* motor, it got larger mains, 1pc rear main seal, and all motors got efi. also all efi motors got the large valve heads, tbi and mpfi
