  • 3.1L Turbo Swap in 92 Cavy

ok. Im new here and I got here because of a buddy. I have a couple things. First lets start with the easy one. I have a 3.4L twin dual cam Grand Prix. What CHEAP mods can i do to it to make it faster. Its all stock now with the ex. of the cat being replaced by a pipe. The best pass was a 15.59 @ 89mph.
Second thing... I have a 92 cavy with a 2.2L 5speed. I have a 1990 turbo grand prix motor that i want to put in. I have all the specs that you could want for the 3.1L. I have the wiring harness, turbo, intercooler, and a complete motor. I want to keep it a 5 speed manual UNLESS there is sum way to make it a 6 speed manual. That would be sweet. Anywho the ? I have are as follows...
Tranny- What tranny do i need? Can i keep the one i have now?
Turbo- What aftermarket turbos will fit?
Motor mounts- Whats the best way to switch them?
Axels- What axels do i need the be able to hold 300hp?
Mods- What r sum mods that i can do to the motor itself?

I want to have sumwhere round 300hp. I want to autocross and dragrace it. I also want to woop the shit out of this guy in town who has a 14sec moostang. He thinks he owns the city of muscatine. If you have any info about this swap email me at connecthometech@yahoo.com. Thats the best way to get a hold of me. Thanks a bunch guys... and girls if any.
    Laterz,

James, i coulda told you a lot of this info if you just asked me :P

1st, i cant help you with that DOHC monster, they're not my thing.... pushrod power

Tranny - You'll wanna find a V6 manual tranny, preferably from a 92, because then I think you can re-use your shift cables. That 4 cyl trany wont like the turbo'd power much
turbo - you're gonna need to modify the crossover pipe to clear the transmission mount anyway, so you might as well just weld on a flange for whatever turbo you wanna use. someone here will probly be able to help you figure out what will work best for you.
Mounts - ? I know you'll have to find the 5 speed rear motor mount bracket, the 4 cyl one is different, btu the tranny mount bracket and any V6 J-body front bracket are the same
axles - stock axles have shown to hold upwards of 350hp. not for a long time, with lots of abuse, btu they do hold :P a pair of driveshaftshop axles is like 600 bucks IIRC
motor mods - if you really want it to perform at it's maximum you'll do a hybrid or a full 3x00 swap, like i'm doing. If you wanna keep the 3.1 stuf though, port and polish the heads and intakes really good, and build a set of turbo headers.

There's lots more info and knowledge floating around here, someone else better chime in :P

Hey thanks. Like i said i still have time to gather info. 350hp? I would have never guessed that they would hold. I'm thinkin i just need to find a v6 donor car with a 5 speed. If you know anyone that has one for cheap let me know. Thanks again.

Get down to the junkyard *right now* if you need a donor car, there's a v6 5 speed beretta down there just sitting, who knows how long it'll be down there, its been there for a couple weeks now.
