Wow, that's lighter than I thought after looking on edmunds.com. Yeah you'll be in the 14's. Thats about the weight of the 2nd gen cavs. Wow.

The getrags came in the later year cavs right? I'd go for it over the izzy.

First run on mine was high 17's. (3+ second 60' time, heh) But, I pull a consistently at about 93mph. Best I pulled 15.100 @ 92.79. Stock Isuzu 2.2 trans, open diff, cheap tires, rough tune done with a narrowband on Megasquirt-II (still gets pretty decent MPG though).

The Cav is a tad lighter than the Sunfire for some reason (extra body on the SF?) But I'd say since Kardain is running the factory OBD-II system with probably a better tune he could rip into 14's quite easily with some practice on the new engine, of course. I'm assuming he has better tires than me too, i'm pretty sure everyone does.

Kardain - one issue I had noted to me by Skilz (from the .org) is that on the launch I have some nasty horrible tire shake. I would suggest if you haven't done so already that you at least upgrade to the poly control arm bushings, you're gonna need them.

Also last time I busted a tranny I got one off of junkyarddog.com A yard sold one to me for 300 shipped + 90 day warranty, with less than 100k on it. (note* My tranny was getting replaced at something like 99k IIRC) I was suprised, it was in pretty good shape for the price. That might be a place to look if you're in a crunch for finding a trans.

Go find a getrag. It'll be worth it.

Well...... For the 3rd gen guys we can do the new Getrag from the 2000+ cars but that requires welding new mounts. Though I do like the feel of the trans in those when you drive. It's comfy. I don't think it's quite as strong as the old 282. But, I was under the impression that the 282 will have the older style VSS to read. But, I think the NVG trans is correct for the VSS (electric, no cable) and nearly a direct swap. I'd have to look into finding the swap guide again which is for the 2.4 cars, but it would work fine for the 2.2 cars, just have to use a V6 trans.

Problem is, I know right off hand where I can get a 282 from (providing the car is still there) but i'm not so sure on the NVG trans.

Didn't know it needed new mounts. I drove an old 86 grand am with the Iron Duke 2.5 "4 tech" motor with a 5spd Isuzu and that trans sucked.

The 282 is available with electric VSS, from say a Beretta. In 94 I think it went to the NVG at least in the cavy's for the V6. Same thing basically from what I've heard just different company name on it. And internal slave.

The 2000+ getrag from the 2.2 will bolt up to the V6. The 2.0/2.2 had the same bolt pattern.

              and since I cant weld....

Also, need to swap the shifter and clutch MC to go with it...

More money than its worth IMO.

I didn't know it was all that work. If I ever swap a 3rd gen I'll just get a 2000 that has the 5spd and be good to go. I'd probably put it on a diet too and beef up the springs as well. Hmm what year did they start using CAN?

Kardain - If you swap to the NVG-T550 (like stated from 94 V6 cav) I dont believe any welding is required. I think you pretty much just need to shim one on the mounts, and make a shift cable extention.

You can find it on JBO but you'll need to look for something relating to the 2.4 guys. 2.2 cars i've never seen the swap. But it could be done for them.... just need to use a v6 trans, rather than a Quad4 trans.

Like I said it's ALMOST a direct swap.

Kardain: To get your tach working, if you don't have a wire from pin C on the ICM connector (the 6 wire one), put a pin and wire in location C. Then run that to your tach. The older OBDI cars used pin C to power a tach directly, later they did not use this wire so they didn't put a pin in the harness for it.
