hello all! I was wanting to swap in a 3400 then i was intrested in everyones 3500 build threads. Now my question is...will the 3500 bolt right up to my current 5 speed izuzu tranny out of my 96 beretta with the 2.2L engine? i was just wondering if the 3500 has the same bolt parterns as the 5 speed tranny i have??? heck if not then i will do the 3400 with the 3500 heads/intake/etc..... i tried searching on here and nothing came up..... or i just searched it wrong LOL

You will have to change the bellhousing to fit any V6, and you may also have to change the subframes V6 units.
And the ECU, a bunch of wires, and way more than that.

2.2 to any V6 is NOT any easy swap!

well, first off, the 2.2 bellhousing WILL bolt to the V6, although, i wouldnt recomend it, i havent heard of anyone who has done a 3400 on an izuzu but i dunno if it'd hold up......

2nd, my friend is taking my old 3.1, and the wiring harness from my 3.1 parts car, and swapping to it, form a 2.0 ohc. Shouldn't take more than a couple days of really hard work....

the isuzu trans sould be fine with a v6, they came in the fiero with v6's and many people have bolted v8's to the same trans. my buddy has a turbo v8 in a fiero with the isuzu trans and held up pretty good untill the motor gave out about 12000 miles (and he didn't drive it very lightly)

Although some have gotten by with them in high output swops GM never mounted them to the V6 in the Fiero which used the 4spd Muncie or 5spd Getrag. The newer version Isuzu is probably stronger than what's found in the Fiero 4 cyl, but I would only risk it as a last resort. 12k miles worth of hard driving isn't that much when you consider one can expect no less than 100k out of a manual trans driven hard. I doubt the Isuzu would hold up to typical V8 270 lb/ft or more pounding on a regular basis liking to what a young adult would subject it to for very long. If it can't be counted on for at least 100K durability its to risky for me, especially since I'm doing the work, and anyone having removed the drivetrain from a Fiero knows it takes quite a bit.

A lot of the guys on the Fiero forum are aware of the Isuzus limitations and I'm sure for the most part they are not coming off the clutch in the northstar, 3800SC and smallblock power plants without keeping them in mind if that's what's bolted to their engine because they know it would just be a matter of time before the next tranny swop.

i know a guy localy with a 4.9l caddy motor in his fiero and he runs an isuzu because the gearing is better for a v8. he has now stripped 2nd gear out of 3 transmissions in a little over a year.

thanks for the input. i do know another beretta guy that had a 2.2L and swapped a 3400 in to the izuzu tranny. the reason why i ask is because i cant seem to find one locally here in the yard (i really want a getrag 282) i hear these are the choice for most of the 5 speed 3400-3500 motors, i just didnt know if it had the same bolt pattern and all. i recently have taken on a new project with the 3500w/5spd and OBDII equipped donor beretta( i recently wreaked mine and isnt worth fixing the frame about $1500 or more)
