I don't know where you've been, but it's kinda one of those Hi-wear components like alternators and shit. Especially when you sandwich it between all that heat. Could they have put it in a hotter spot? "I think that would really take some serious GM engineering to pull off." But hell they never learned a thing from the alternator on the 3.4 at all. So what can we expect?

i rarely replace starters on northstars at work. they go within the same time frame as most other starters go. nothing worse due to the location.

they are actually really Easy to replace. the upper intake just unbolts and you just kinda keep the intake up out of the way with a bungee strap to keep from having to completely remove it. then its just the two bolts for the starter. simple shit actually.

Makes me wonder .. Anyone ?
I've seen a L67 in a Pre-98 Cutlass and there was alot of room, almost as much as the stock 3100!
i have a L67 in my 92 Lumina Z34. it fits in the engine bay very nicley and it is much easier to work on then the 3.4l X motor. and as far as it being a POS, i don't think you have any idea what your talking about. the GM 3800 is one of the best built v6's you are going to find. if anything the 3.4L DOHC has more reasons to be called a POS. Keep in mind i have owned 2 of the DOHC's and the L67 has caused me MANY MANY less headachs. what other motor do you know of out of the box that you can do intake, exhaust and a pully and make 250hp and 350lbs tq Reliably? not many... I beat the living hell out of my lumina daily. ask anyone that knows me, i am allways beating the sh*t out of my car and all i do is change the oil and fill up my gas tank. Nothing else is needed....

BTW: the northstar does take up more room then the L67. the L67 fits in my engine bay much better then the 3.4L DOHC let alone a 4.6L DOHC Northstar V8.

-but im sure the 4.6 northstar(300 hp 305tq stock makes me salivate just thinking about it ) is taller being 4 cam and all. ****no its not taller no more than the 3.4TDC

-http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33615&item=2463314 104**** a local to me NICE CAR no fitment problems

-cause I highly doubt my GETRAG 284 would just bolt right to it .. Good Luck .. ****the Northstar has a GM V6 bellhousing bolt pattern

-how much would a L67 swap coat.. ball park****anywhere from $1800 to $4000
I may own a GTO now, but I'm still a 60V6er at heart.

I would spring for the N* over L67 for the sheer fact of it putting you in the V8 bracket. Sure, the L67 has good torque, but you hardly need to touch anything on any V8 to make good power (there are a few exceptions though). V8 has natural born boil the tires and kick your ass torque written all over it. Not to mention that nice low growel out of the tail pipes at idle with even a half assed decent exhaust and even mild cam. Not sure what would be out there in the way of cams for the N*, and it is DOHC, so it won't be as cheap or easy to work on as something like a 350. One swap I would like to see? How about a RWD conversion, 6 speed manual, and 383 stroker. Now that would rock. I know this is a little out of my reach right now, but all I want is more power
