  • 3100 SFI into 1986 Fiero SE

Just brought home 1995 3100 SFI. Replacing The 2.8 and keeping original automatic. Will the Fiero's Computer run the SFI or will I need the compter from the 94 donor car.

Your ECM won't run in SFI mode, since it's a batch fire ECM. If you can get it to run teh engine, it would fire the injectors no problem. The issue here is the ignition however. Your existing ECM will not run using the DIS ignition and swapping to a different ECM, something that ran a GenII 2.8/3.1 wouldbe a much easier swap than the SFI PCMs.

      Thanks,
Going tommorow and getting the harness and every thing attached to it.
Will I need to do anything special for it to work the tranny from the 86 fiero.
      I only swaped the engine.

The '86 fireo needs no special connections from an ECM, if it's an auto all it needs is a TCC lock up connection and nuetral position inputs. , if it's stick, it needs no connection at all.

If you need an automatic harness, I have two, that would be perfect for what you are doing, both genII automatic harnesses, one from a 2.8, one from a 3.1.

Question on the front engine mount, which one do you use since this is an aluminum oilpan going onto the cradle, so the fiero's enginemount bracket wont bolt up?
          I modify stuff

I got the whole harness and every fuse circuit and relay it was connected to.
I did leave the Airbag system in donor.
The oil pan fit with the 2.8 dogbone had to cut the dogbone and notch the oilpan but should work fine.
I now have no worries about hooking up the engine However tracing lights and other misc electrical maybe more challanging than swaping the engine.
Do the head and tail light wireing run thru the computers connections???????

Please, please tell me you didn't get the harness from the same car you got the engine from.

SOOO much more trouble than it's worth, and IIRC you said it was a 1995 whihc is OBD 1.5 and NO ONE has anything that can tune that ECM, besides GM, from what I have seen.

Better off to go with a genII ECM/harness, MUCH simpler and loads more support for the ECM.

Very good point was un aware of that.
Last night when you posted I was in the garage puting it in. Just finished about ten minutes ago. When you talk about tuneing do you mean just to get more power or just for it to run. should have cradel in this time tommorow.
                    Wish me luck.
                    Thanks

I'm more speaking of tuning for more power, but it may be an issue to get it to run, I don't recall what the OBD 1.5 PCM requires to run, or run properly, but I'm quite sure it needs more than just basics, like power and ground.
