  • engine swap question

Hey im new to the site. i was wondering if there was anyone who knows anything about putting a '95 monte carlo 3100(obd1) engine in a '97 malibu (obd2) could i just put the plentum and throttle body and air box on the older
engine as a direct swap or what. im buying the monte carlo wrecked from a local junkyard so ill have access to all of the parts. thanks E. Brown

They are the same engine with the exception of maybe a few sensors, so yes, it would be a direct swap. You would probably need to re-use the mounting brackets as well (which might require the timing cover to be replaced). Other than that, swap the plenum so you can keep your EGR and maybe swap the lower intake manifold for the threaded coolant pipe hole. And while you have the lower manifold off, do yourself a favor and replace the LIM gaskets. Browse through the Pushrod Maint area and read a few of the threads talking about the LIM gasket issues.
