Ive got a 93 cutlass with a 3100, and i was thinking of doing a swap with a 3100 turbo'd engine. or maybe a 3400 dohc, and then tune those engines, any possibilities, or would it be too difficult or not worth it?

3100 turbo, or 3400 DOHC into cutlass?

grand prix TGP parts should bolt right on to your engine, or you could get the whole engine. Personally I wouldn't mess with swaping the DOHC into it, it'd be easier just to get the whole car. Is it worth it? it depends on what you want for the car, how much money you have to spend, and how much time you want to invest.

i dont know about swapping parts from a DOHC to my engine, i was thinkin a full swap, but then im sure there will be problems with PCM/ECU. my car is a cutlass and some laugh when i have the ideas but its a nice car, i like it, and its all very much possible. i first decided to go strictly for quality, powerful engine and tranny, amazing sound system, great adjustable suspension and brakes. and as for the outside, make it look good, like mostly stock, but maybe some tint, some wheels. stuff that suits the car, and i think it can be amazing. im probably going overboard and crazy but oh well.

Ok I think we need to clear up some things here... if I make any mistakes someone please let me know.
You have a 93, so you would have a 3.1 NOT a 3100. Yes they both displace the same amount, however they are different generation engines and have different parts/power. The actual 3100 is found in 94+ cars.
For the 3.4 DOHC, it's not to be confused with the actual 3400 (you mentioned 3400 DOHC above, and one does not exist). There is an actual 3400 engine that is just like the 3100, but is displaces .3L more than the 3100. It didn't come stock in any w-body's as far as I know.
The actual 3.4 DOHC came stock in GTP's from 96 and earlier (I dunno when it started).
Now as far as the turbo goes, and the TGP mentioned above. The TGP is a Turbo Grand Prix which was around in 89-91 I believe, with the exact same engine as yours (3.1 not 3100) however it has turbo manifolds, a turbo, and other parts needed for a turbo setup. TGP parts can be hard to find, but if you can get an entire kit together from a TGP then you can just plop them all on your car and you will have a nice turbo.
All of this info and more can be found by poking around the homepage of www.w-body.com
Edit - Oh and there is no ECU, it's just a PCM that controls your engine/transmission. You have OBD-I if your curious.SpudFiles

I figured you were talking about swapping in the whole 3.4 dohc engine, I personally just don't think that would be worth it. The turbo grand prix parts would be a good swap if you want to do the work yourself. That would be probably be the best bang for the buck.

a 3.4l tdc would be a lot of work. you would likley need a complete donor car. however you are rewarded with 205hp, and thats if you leave it stock. before you put the motor in there are a few tricks you can do to gain some more power (playing with cam timing).

donor car yes, lots of work not really if you have an eye for details to see what all is different. between myself and ben i'm not sure how many cars have been swapped, so there is a wealth of info(try a search here, might yield some info but not sure how far back stuff goes). i've done 2 i think, done so many 660 w car swaps it's hard to remember. the first documented 3.4 dohc swap, first pre 91 dohc swap, and first 3400 gen1 lumina.

a 3100 Cutlass Supreme is RARE, but they do exist. I got the intake system that is on my 1988 Cutlass Supreme that I swapped a 2000 3100 into from a 1993 Cutlass Supreme. Imagine my shock..... 1993 steering wheel, 3100 engine. At first I thought I was seeing things, then I looked at the emissions sticker.
One of the EASIEST swaps you could do is a 3400 swap. Physically, it will drop right in. Since you already have a 3100 in your car, you are already set up to use a newer 3100, or a 3400. Very little would need to be done to modify the car. Your biggest issues will be with running it. I don't know anything about the 1993 ECM that runs the 1993 3100, so I don't know if it has the newer style, or the older one. Seeing that it is SFI, I would imagine it is a newer (1994) style PCM.
There are many ways to go about doing it, but I know what you mean about loving the car, and wanting to make it fast, and nice. I tend to go overboard too, but I don't really post that much about anything that is not engine here (occasionally, I will).
I have a 1995 Cutlass Supreme that I am in the process of installing a HUD, and BOSE radio. I know where you are coming from.Taylor

3100 didn't come till 94, a 93 couldn't have one (unless it was swapped in, or somehow got one at the very end of the 93 production cycle)SpudFiles

Some vehicles (mainly A-bodies) came with the 3100 in 93.-Brad-
