Newbe here, hey to all. Santa brought me an 84 jeep w/about 200+ on it. Body is in great shape but here's the thing nobody ever took care of her and I would like to hive her some new life. I have a couple of bad lifters and would like to replace the 2.8 w/3.4 . Crate has a long block which would slip right in but I am going to need some help with the most applicable tranny. I am also looking to raise it 3"/4" inches. It would ultimatley be my daily. I am not able to work a job. disabld. but are there any of you folks able to suggest what might be best. For starters I put two new stock tires on the front and whoop de we're all over the road, gonna have the front end check and fixed, what order do I start my project list? There always seems to be to much month at the end of the money. Mayday, Mayday.

id start with the 3.4l swap first. you can get the crate motor or a 3.4l from a 93-95 camaro, throw a cam in it and either strip all the efi and go with a carb or convert the truck to efi. either way you will have the same power as the crate motor.

is the truck auto or 5 stick??? if its an auto, itll be an a lockup A904 chrysler. they are decnet, but if your in search of better fuel mialage, you could swap an 700r4 gm tranny, but you will likley need to swap in a gm t-case and custom driveshafts as well. if you have a 5 speed, im not sure what it is, so its hard for me to recomend anything. it could be an ax5 or ax15, or may be a t5. hard to say. but whatever tranny you have it will bolt to the 3.4l.

to the best of my knowledge the tranny is a stock issue, whatever came with the 2.8 anchor.

Persoanlly I would take care of the maintainence issues first. Get the front end driving straight and any other problems fixed. Then put the power to it. The 3.4L will make it quite a fun vehicle to drive. I did the same to my S-10 and I love the engine. I chose a Camaro motor and rebuilt it but if I were to do it again I would get the crate motor. After all the cost into the rebuild and the messing around driving back and forth I would only rebuild a used engine again if I planned to modify it alot. But for a near stock motor the crate value is un beatable.

Check out my website for tons of info in the 3.4L swap
