  • 3100 ECM to 3400 Engine Compatibility

I ordered an ECM for my up and coming swap (after UPS lost the first one, but that's for another day)...

Yard might have sent one thats not compatible (?)

    Its from an 01 Malibu w/ a 3.1, engine is a 01 Grand AM 3.4

Will it work or do I need another ECM (main thing is I have to get the autotrans settings removed and have it run the engine... that's all that matters for now)

it will run the engine. Not optimally though. You could always get the PCM reflashed with the correct program thru the dealer or wherever.

trying to run that in your sunfire? use a 2nd gen computer as piggy back to run it, and then use the sunfire stuff to run gauges. its been done over and over

In second gens, yes... in third gens, not as much. The gauges are ECM/BCM driven on the 3rd gens whereas 2nd gens are independent from the engine computer (VSS aside, I believe).

Also, since I'm going to be moving to a place that has emissions, I can't backdate to OBD1
