  • Cams for the 3.4

Ok, this is my first post. I have done my research and I decided to swap my 2.8L for a 93 camaro 3.4L. I was looking at cams from comp, but I am unsure. With my 2.8L build, I ordered a edelbrock cam and it would not work, because of the computer. I want to know the top recomendations for cams for the 3.4L with roller rockers, and tbi. I have the engine, the gaskets, the rockers, the tb and spacer and injectors(I am using an injection setup from a 5.7L). The bottom end is done and the ported heads will be done in a week. Anysugestions on what cam I should go with if one, ad any other performance ideas for my set up in my 87 S-10.

Also, anyone with used parts for 2.8L or 3.4L for sale, let me know. I will be building my 2.8L for a friend's 84 S-10

Do NOT run 5.7L incectors it will be EXTREMLY rich. 5.0L injectors will run but I have tried them and they are too rich for my liking. 4.3L injectors are the recommended solution and even those are just a bit rich on cold idle.

So I highly suggest you find 4.3L injectors

Back to the cam. You have lots you cams choose from. The most popular street choices are the Crane 260 and 272 cams. They will both run with the TBI system. Although Crane recommends the 2020 and 2030 cam for computer applications avoid them I have tried the 2030 and it sucks ass. Get the 260 it will run fine hundreds of swapper have used it. Oh and the Edelbrock cam would have worked completly fine. It is a pretty good cam but the Crane 260 offers better lift and duration.

When I put the edelbrock cam in my 2.8, it would not idle correct, and it had no rpms. I changed the timing and had the correct valve lash but it did not work. I will try the crane 260 cam. are there ay other suggestions or things I need to look out for when doing this swap?

The Edelbrock cam will work. John on this board is running a Crane 272 cam on an un modified 2.8L TBI ecm. It is a far more agressive cam.

You may have had the cam installed wrong, the firing order incorect, had the distributor out or who knows. But an edelbrock cam will work.

I just got an '86 S-10 4x4 extended cab. I plan on doing the 3.4 swap, so I'll pay attention to this thread.
