  • What gaskets for LA1/LG8 intake manifolds on an L82?

    I searched quite a bit, and on more than one forum but couldn't really find a definitive answer.

    My LIM has been leaking for over a year now and before it was a pretty slow/light leak, where I'd just lose a few hundred ml of coolant every few months; but, it recently turned to a "I'm-seeing-it-leak-all-over-the-side-of-the-engine-and-on-my-driveway" type leak Coolant still doesn't appear to be going in the engine which is good, but I can't imagine it being long before it does...

    With it getting cold and the real cold probably coming just around the corner I guess I'll have to be doing the gaskets in the next week or so.

    Anyway I'm thinking I might as well find a UIM/LIM/TB from a 00+ 3100 (LG8 ) to go on my 97 Grand Am 3100 (L82), since it's an easy enough swap, right?

    Only thing I'm wondering though is which gasket set do I buy? The one for my L82-based car or the one for the 00+ 3100 (LG8 ) and 3400 (LA1)? I'm going to be buying the Fel-Pro Perma-Dry Plus gasket set I think. I'm thinking it should be the one for the LG8/LA1 engines but I'm not sure. Any help would be appreciated!

    the large port manifolds won't line up to your heads right.. you'll have to either do some port matching or swap to the newer heads...
    Past Builds;

    Current Project;

      Its not that drastic that you can't use those parts. I am hesitant to say you should port match them either. Its 1mm off but I think all the pics and measurements were lost before. I might be able to get some again.

      I think you need the 96-99 LA1 minivan gasket kit. I am not 100% sure though if the lower intake gaskets will line up for the middle intake port alignment "pin".

        Really so it's not a direct match for the heads? I was always under the impression (for years now, lol) that you could just swap the upper and lower onto the older engines...

        Also isn't the LA1 gasket set the same no matter what year LA1 it's for? Was it different for years before 2000 as well?

        One last quick question, what is the stock throttle body size on the L82 and LA1/LG8; I remember it being 52mm and 56mm is that correct or am I wrong there too?
