  • Megasquirt Engine Control System

Thanks patgizz for showing me this. Anyways, I was telling him about an upcoming project, and the fact i wanted to use an aftermarket engine management system. He then pointed me to this. I've been looking around, and suprisingly, there are a lot of people using it. It seems to be really promising, and the cost is awesome!

My only concern is the programming. I am just horrible at that. Maybe I could get Ben to do it, but it probably wouldn't be cheap.

    Any comments on this system?

    RE: Megasquirt Engine Control System

Ben probably won't be able to help except giving you an excel file of the fuel and spark tables. I have a standalone that I never got fully installed (Perfect Power MIC-3), and that's about all he could do for me. I've read and seen alot of info on the Megasquirt, and it seemed like a pretty decent unit. Problem is, if you have a 94 (judging by your name), you're gonna have the fun part, like I was trying to figure out, of having both the standalone AND the stock PCM due to the tranny. In theory, it can be done. I never got a chance to finish my project, but I think I had it all almost figured out. Just something to think about before you drop the money into it.

I actually have a 93 Lumina Z34, I have just had that screenname for a long time now.

Anyways, even that would help greatly. I wouldn't even know where to start on the fuel and spark tables, but just having those will help so much. For my next engine, I will most likely use a 91-93 3.4 DOHC, so having to figured out the PCM part for the tranny shouldn't be as much of a pain(then again, it is a 4t60E....).

I pretty much will have to go with an aftermarket engine management system, unless Ben can tune what I will have done.

If its an early DOHC, I'm pretty sure Ben can tune it with the stock PCM. The stock PCM actually has much more ability than almost any standalone on the market, you just have to know how to access it and adjust it. And Ben is one of the guy's I would trust to do it.

If thats the case, then I can save myself some time and money and just have Ben do it. Now my big problem is going to be finding a decent harness. The old one that was in my car was trashed, and this one isn't much better.

Sounds like a plan. For that price, its worth it.
