its a megasquirt stand alone ecu, relay board and stimulator, all in little baggies waiting to be assembled.
i thought about making an adaptor harness, however i gotta change so much wiring around that its a lot of work to swap from one to the next. i do already have a base tune thats close to stock, so realy the motor shouldnt run any different than it does now with a stock ecm.
ive been doing a lot of work on it, im now very close to finnished building it. ive had a few issues, but everything worked itself out. i now have the ecm running on the stim and everything seems to be responding like it should. i basicly have to double check all my work, solder on 3 leds and put it in the case.
Nice progress Sharkey.... I would like to play around with a MS but will probably buy a pre-assembled one. I don't get along well with little electrical components. Keep us updated on your progress.
this is actualy my fist big electronic project. ive done soe minor repairs on circuit boards before. if you can solder and follow direstions, then all you need is a small soldering iron and you would have no problems building it. its actualy very simple, just follow directions.
well, no new pics, but after 2 days of work, its in the car and the car is running. after a few glitches, both electricaly and tuning wise, the car is driving and i managed to go for a bit of driving tonight. my tune up is very rough still, but its getting better.

the factory relay and power center is now gone, and the intake is off for swapping the injectors
this is the end result for now. its hard to see, but the innovate wideband controller is mounted on the wiper motor
i plan to make a sheild for the relay board to keep moisture away, although people report no problems even soaked in water. i will be cleaning the wiring harness up and removing all the unused wiring, as the megasquirt only uses about 20 wires compared to about 50 on the stock ecm.
tuning is comming along. the car starts and idles nice (i lost my nice lope i used to have), and seem to have smoothed out the powerband a lot. i already notice i have a lot more power under 3k, and i dont have a big burst of power at 32oorpm like i did before. it pulls very nice all the way over 6k rpm, but im already finding my 19lb ford injectors are running at 98%.
awesome. i should have my own garage to do uninterupted work in soon, if everything goes as planned. i've never been good at soldering, but if you say its no big deal i'll probably be following your footsteps and get a megasquirt to play with in the cold numbing winter.

I dig your setup! So is the system batch fire or sequential? Does the system run off Map,MAF, Throttle postion, or is it a combination of two or more of those. Can it be tuned using a wideband O2 or do you use residual exhaust gas, or street tune? How's the ignition triggered? Hall effect on the crank/cam or do you still have to run the stock ignition? My bad for so many questions, I'm just curious and impressed. Good Job man!

right now it is only capable of batch fire, however once the gpio board comes out you will be able to add in sequential if you have a cam sensor. there are 3 different fueling algorithms: speed dencity (map), alpha n (tps vs rpm, for race stuff only) and maf or maf/map blended. a tps is recomended, but not needed, what it is mostly there for is tps based acceleration enrichment (basicly an accelerator pump on a carb), however that can be done based on a map sensor threshold. it is recomended that you use a wideband o2 sensor and controller, i run an innovate lc1. i street tune my car with the wideband. what realy helps is with a wideband, you can set an air/fuel target table and rough in youe fuel table, go on a drive and take a data log, load the log and your tuning file into megalog viewer, and have it retune your fuel table based on the data.
ignition is whatever you want to do. i run my stock distributor with the hei 8 pin module (distributor has a VR sensor, module converts VR signal). gm dis wiring is very simular, as the crank sensor is wired to the ignition module, and the module converts the signal for the ecm. ford edis is also very popular, all it requires is a trigger wheel (36-1 or 60-2 are popular) the coil and the edis module. there are lots of ignitions setups that work well, almost any factory efi ignition will work.
