  • 97 Grand Am Tuning (PCM difference)

Hey guys, i got a dilema on my hands. I have a 97 grand am gt with a 3100 out of a 02 grand prix. it has the grand prix injectors and runs for now but i know its running too rich, its throwing some kind of code, and kind of stumbling at idle sometimes. Now i have a stock bin for a 1998 grand am gt that i can tune and could easily change the injector flow rate from 455 mSec/ Gram to 371 mSec/Gram to correct the injectors and tune some more to get the car running.

With all that said, my question is this. Can a 97 grand am use a 98 grand am pcm. I'm pretty sure that a 96 can use a 97 and the other way around but can i interchange the 98 with them. Thank you.

Put in your old injectors, and FPR.

Next, make sure you're using the 02 cam sensor. Then you shouldn't have any issues. You'll want to use the 02 EGR so it bolts up, should be the same style connector.

That's the easisest way to get it going. A 98 PCM isn't going to help you really...

I really can't do that as i no longer have the injectos. Also I would need a new harness and FRP because those are gone also. The main reason i want to use a 98 pcm is becasue i have the ability to tune it. I know the pcm's physically are the same, but i'm not sure that they software to run the car is compatiable.

If you have a powertuner, then you can tune for the fuel tables and get it to run on the higher pressure and higher flowing injectors. How come the 97 won't let you tune? Is the powertuner locked for 98?

Id imagine you could take a 98 pcm, flash it with 97 code, then go back and edit the fuel tables for your injecotrs/FPR and be good to go. That way it would have the 97 code incase it was different than the 98.
