97 lumina computer in a 96 monte?

Im having multiple issues with 97 computers in 96 cars. Is a 3800 computer reflashed for a 3100 acceptable? VATS isn't an issue but it doesn't run properly with lots of misfires (97 lumina computer in a 96 monte). Used a 3100 computer the first time and then another computer which is 97 grand prix 3800.

Using a 97 grand am computer in a 96 achieva was simple so I don't know why its so difficult for a monte carlo. The car runs with the 96 computer (L67 injectors so its rich as hell) but horrible with a tuned setup that I know works short of being 97 in a 96.

is the CASE DTC getting triggered/dealt with?
i think 97 still used the pluggable knock filter, have those been swapped around?

i know the 97 PCM can work in a 96 car, at least a couple in the w-body crowd have done it for a 96GP w/3.4 that want a 4T65(and the rather large list of additions to the calibration), so they use the 97 3.4 PCM/calibration. i can't think of any reason why the same can't be done for a 3100.

No KR filter swapped, just runs horrible with misfires. I know the 96 achieva had no issues with the 97 grand am computer so it just doesn't make any sense to me. I don't know if I have a bad 97 lumina 3100 file but 2 computers have done the same thing.

if it might help, i have two 97 lumina 3100 BINs, a 09355440 and 16245158, as far as i know they're untouched.

Yeah I run the 97 venture or monte Carlo calibrations on a 058 ecu in my car with absolutely no issues. Just needed to disable some unused DTC codes.

Can I see the file you are using? Tested what I was using on a DHP read comparison and there is no difference. So I know my code was fine but for some reason 2 cars run equally bad and neither is local. I can't read any files with no VIN (DHP doesn't put a VIN on its reads) and I don't know what hex location to add one.

here is the file I always start with, I make the DTC section match what the Beretta had though to eliminate any SES light or other errors.

I also attached a 97 Monte 3.1L file.

If you need vins added shoot me the vin I can add it in DHP and re-post the file

You could also download TinyTuner and under tools there is a change vin option... That might help you with non vin files.

Tiny tuner won't open any of those files or the 97 files I have from Robert. It was the DTC you eliminated that I really wanted to see.

Ah, so it does. Doesn't help me though, as I know the files I was using are identical to the 158 you sent me. So its either in the DTC codes, or its something else physical. Im thinking about turning every code off and seeing if that does it.

Code differences sheet between 97 Venture and 96 Beretta.

Non means doesn't exist in the 96 beretta file so I set it for no reporting and disable the DTC completely, The rest I just changed to match what the beretta had.

And you are correct, 97 Monte file will not open in TT, I forgot about that one. I can put a vin in it through DHP if you have one you want to try.

That will do it right there Thanks! I am sending a PCM with no codes allowed to see if that actually does it. If so, I will backtrack to just this sheet being what is disabled. Any chance there is a 96 lumina or monte file to compare with somewhere?

I only have a 98 Lumina and a 96 LQ1 monte... no 3x00 stuff for 96.

I wish I could find a place to download more calibrations... I'd like to expand my collection to include near everything that DHP supports.
