  • Looking for PCM tune for 2005 Malibu LX9

Hey everyone, I'm new here and found this website while on another forum, chevymalibuforum.com

Im looking for a PCM tune for my car and havent been able to come up with anything yet. My car is a 2005 Chevy Malibu with a LX9 motor. I tried HP tuners and when I called them the person said they didnt make a tune for my car. I also tried a few other spots and came up with only one. Here is the link to that website.

If you scroll about a third to the bottom it is under "V6 Cars" in red. I feel that 300$ is a steep price to pay for a tune. Does anyone know of any tunes out for my car? Another reason I ask is that a company called Milzy Autosport that makes a Kit for my car doesn't have a PCM tune specifically for my car and wouldnt unlock the full power of the car. Here is the link to that product.

The owner, Mike, said that his company would be able to install the kit for about 3600$ But it would not include a PCM tune since as I said before they do not have one. If he were to have the tune then it would probably be around 4000$ for the whole set up (just a guess, I didn't ask) and he said I would see as much as 100HP increase on my car.

But I also wanted to ask for a PCM tuning program that I can retune at anytime. This fall I want to put on a intake and exhaust. And im guessing that I would need a tune for that. Then if I get the Stage 2 kit I would need yet another tune for that. I havent gone much into this stuff so dont be upset if I am wrong here.

So any help that I can get would be appreciated.

No one makes a tuning package for your car. Basically, you have the wrong car for modifying unless you go aftermarket on the computer.

I wonder if the vortec 4200 PCM would be ideal for this situation... Would still require an external crank trigger to be added but would work with DBW and may be a better fit than an earlier 60* OBDII PCM.

I still wonder about the LNJ PCM/programming. it's supported by EFI live and HP tuners, and an LNJ is pretty much a 3500 programming wise isn't it?

FWIW, our PCM's support DBW too, the programming would be a little tricky, but it does exist.

As said before it looks like your SOL.. HPTuners skips right over the 05 year and doesn't even support the 3.5 until 07+ so they eliminated the non VVT version from their list of cars.

              97-03 Malibu 3.1, 3.4
              97-05 Malibu 2.2, 2.4
              13-14 Malibu 2.0
              06-12 Malibu 3.5, 3.6, 3.9 (3.5 in 07+ only)

Kinda crazy but at the same time there probably wasn't enough interest to invest any time into unlocking that calibration...
