if you want to expand the tables, you're going to need to learn 68332 assembly.... the VDF editor will only change the representation of the axis values in the table, so while you could make the table SAY 10-300kPa, that won't make it so. very few ECMs have that kind of capability to change things like that easily, i THINK megasquirt is one of them. if you were able to pound out good assembly, you could make a lookup table that had the cell thresholds in them, but that adds a lot of complexity to the program.

so, what happens in say, the fuel tables, when you go beyond the table? the tables stop at 6400 RPM's, and my build will be capable of much higher then that."I am not what you so glibly call to be a civilized man. If you plan on exceeding the limits of the ECU to that extreme then unfortunately it sounds like you need to move to a stand alone setup. Normally I do not recommend that but you are pushing the limits of the stock ECU and would benefit greatly from something that is much easier customized to your unique setup... Rather than trying to re-invent GM's ECU config.

no matter what way I go, it's gonna be a challenge, some ways will just be a bit more challenging."I am not what you so glibly call to be a civilized man. How is OBDI going to open up what he's asking for? Is re-scaling a table accomplished easier or something? Every OBDI I've messed with has very low resolution when it comes to many of the tables so unless you guys have expanded them I don't see how that will help make it better... Maybe allow for a higher peak but you loose mid resolution doing that if the main table is smaller to start.
Switch to a carb and distributor... Screw the ECU...

except for some VERY expensive standalone units, i'd like to think that the 400-2000 in 100 RPM, 2000-8400 in 200RPM increments i currently have nAst1 setup for in the main spark and VE tables, it has to be winning for most over-defined tables ever. getting down to this fine of granularity actually seems to be more trouble than it's worth, so the 400-2000 in 100 will stay, but 2000-8400 will likely go to 400 RPM increments.

if I go OBD1, I'm gonna go with a P4 EBL, I've used Dynamic EFI's products before, they work, and they're very user friendly.

See to me that's not OBDI, yes maybe that's the system it operates on but I look at that as a standalone solution... When someone says OBDI I think of just backing up a few years and using and older GM ecu, hence why I think it's an odd suggestion.

RBob makes good/well thought out products.... it's is kind of halfway between standalone and OEM. it's essentially an add-on board that contains a LOT of custom code and the ability to interface with a lot of external hardware, all of which is dependant on the 7730/7727/etc underneath it to do the actual work.

There's also $12P for the 7165 ECM (99% plug'n'play for a Fiero harness BTW), and that has VE and spark tables to 9600 rpm I think.
Then there's code59 as well but I can't remember how high the VE tables go.'89 Firebird, 3500 Turbo, T56, 9-bolt/4.11
'86 Fiero, 3500, 4-speed
