  • Great site! Now what? :)

    Greetings,

I have a 2001 Monte Carlo and an HPT. I am looking where to go from here.

Now, I am very inclined to work hard and see results past the actual feel of the car. I am very interested in what makes good MPG vs. Power. I would love to build a tune for both cases.

Lots of people ask, Where do I go? or What do I do now? Unfortunately, there are not too many people with tuners and even less with knowledge they are willing to share.

I would love to be an active part of this V6 tuning and I have my hand on the trigger willing to try anything.

So... now that my fans are running when I want them to, what next?

Hello and welcome to the site. I am one of the furthest from being an expert tuner. But people will likely want to know: What modifications to the car have you done, what mods do you want to do, and what type of gauges do you have? A Wideband o2 with a guage is very important when it comes to tuning.
You may or may not know 10 times what i do.

Currently, I have a CAI (fenderwell), a power log (front), high flow cat with ubend delete (2.5" downpipe)... I believe that is it. No special gauges yet, just stock but the scanning software brings new light to what can be viewed and not assumed.

I understand the wideband o2 sensor is important and it's on the shopping list but wont be until I pay off the tuner

You can get by using the narrow band but a wideband will definitely help getting it more exact and finding some missing HP.

Regarding tuning... Get on the HPTuners site and look at some of the processes they suggest. The first thing to start with is part throttle tuning and getting the trims under control and then you can move to WOT tuning and fueling which the Wideband will come in handy doing... and then you can play with spark tables. Everyone has their own methods but I'm sure you should be able to find some stuff on the HPT website.

          Thanks for the reply!

The HP forum is dead as they get. No one wants to answer anything because of 'liability'

Forums are all about the Q and A, predominantly, the A.

To be frank, I stumbled onto this website because I could not find any info on the HP website.

Sooooo, likely I missed something on the HP tuners site. Could you point me in the direction of the part throttle tuning? I've gone thought he help and I have gone through some of their old procedures but no where does it say where to start (that I could see).

Well here is some general stuff floating around for DHP which similar processes can be done on HPTuners.

Also if you follow the processes outlined in these how to's they will also help and are more HPT specific

Injector Spreadsheet Russ K's OL maf tuning Tuning Write up Disable VATS in non-Alloytech V6 PCM's I get a 1C0000 Error when I do a Write Calibration Only, Now the car won't start

The MAF tuning and tuning write up links should help give you some input on people's methods.
