  • cam sensor questions!

does the 3x00 cam sensor and crank sensor mesh in the same way as a turbo buick combo would?

    Like this:

also, does a 3500 use the same cam sensor setup as a 3.4 camaro motor?(ifI add a 7 notch trigger wheel will they work like a 3.4 camaro motor's setup?

    Thanks-

    Eric.

I think this system is very different than any of the systems used on a 60 degree V6. In this picture the 7X sensor is divided into two seperate sensors.

I have no experience with cam sensors becuase OBD1 only uses a crank sensor. I know early OBD2 (96-04) uses 2 crank sensors, one is the same as the OBD1 crank sensor and the other is a 24X sensor that is physically different. There is also a cam sensor with this system and later OBD2 is different again. Hopefully someone more familiar with OBD2 will chime in.

Well from what I've been told, the cam sensor on OBDII is for SFI injector function only and the 24x sensor is for high resolution on the crank movement for better spark advance... You can run a OBDII engine with both unplugged and only running off the one crank sensor but you will be in MPFI mode. I also had a 24x sensor that would cause a slight skip at idle; once unplugged that roughness went away, replacing the sensor fixed the problem all together.
