  • HPTuners 2 bar for v6?

My question is: I want to buy HPTuners from wot-tech for my 00 GrandAM with a 3500 and some modifcations. Sometime down the road I plan on building a mild (<8 psi) setup. Ive located 2 bar map sensors from msd. Does HPTuners allow 2-3 bar tuning on v6? All I can find on their website is for select v8 pcms?

Thanks if anyone has any input on this.

For the v6 crowd, we don't have the option for 2bar custom OS's. But there is a way......

    (1) Either import a *.BIN file from your PCM or get a *.BIN file online that is an exact match. Year, Model, Make and matching OS ID's.
    (2) Download Tiny Tuner and use it to open the *.BIN file. This is where you can modify the MAP tables for 2-Bar MAP sensors. Among other handy tables HPT doesn't support.
    * you will verify the OS ID in tiny tuners from the downloaded file w/ your current HPT import of your current PCM file
    (3) Once you modify the *.BIN file in Tiny Tuners, save it and then open the same file in HPT Editor.
    (4) Save the file in HPT Editor and it will be saved as an *.HPT File ready to flash.

You can not open an HPT file in Tiny Tuner. But HPT can open the bin file which is just a raw binary file just like the PCM data.

It can be tricky or frustrating at times trying to find the exact bin file for your car but if you search hard enough you may get it. DHP tuners can pull bin files from what I hear. But they are hard to find these days.

    Good Luck

I have heard through certain people that there will be more support for HPTuners and the 60V6s, including 2 and 3 bar setups. Just waiting to see what happens at this point.

Thanks guys! I actually started doing some N/A tuning today starting with fuel injector flow and adjusting the ve table. Digging deeper down that rabbit hole

SappySE107, that would be GREAT! I found my way around the issues, I have a bin file for my car. But it was a ROYAL PITA hacking things to make it work. Inserting the VIN via binary insertion, and manually setting the checksum to be proper. Ugh, it was weeks of researching online with lots of trial and errors.

I would not recommend it, but that's how I did it.

I should have told you there are risks to your PCM. If you decide to go the route I suggested, have a back up PCM. Seriously.

If you get the beta version, maybe different for your vehicle, but I have an Open Loop fueling table that I can tune for all ranges of operation. After much work I had it idling at 13.4, cruising at 15.5, moderate load at 12.5 and boost at 11.6-10.8

Believe it or not, I saved a very small amount of fuel idling at 13.4 I guess getting the most power versus best emissions (14.7) allowed for less fuel needed to idle. Since the power factor was increased.

Try it, just be very careful tuning. Set your limitations and stick to them.
