  • DE mode; Tiny Tuners, KR

OK, well my tune is starting to come together,
I was quite rich right off the start which I thought was weird, I thought I would be lean to start. I have a fair bit of Spark Knock, (though slightly less now that I am not so rich? ) Also I never seem to enter DE mode?

So this is pretty much a 3 part question lol.

I attach my Bin file here -> http://planethax.com/wz3500vemafbigtest235injrate.bin

Question 1, Why am I never going into DE mode?
I have a Manual Trans using 01 Impala Pcm, the PCM thinks its in first gear?

Do I need to change values in Tiny Tuner? I see many values in TT for DE but not sure what all they do? (and what it meaznt by TPS "Delta" ? )

Question 2, I seem to get KR upto 8-10 with moderate throttle 15-25%?
Was worse when I was very rich, I guess too rich can increase CC temps as well.
What all could be causing this? I used AC Delco plugs 41-101, should I find something cooler? (seen reference to autolites, but have not found them here in Canada yet, at least not with my suppliers)

I have been thinking it was my Cat plugged causing the high KR and Rich condition, but at idle (neutral, clutch applied) my Map is 29 to 30 kpa, If cat was plugged I would think it would be closer to 45-50kpa? any suggestions?

Last quick Item, in TT I see under Injector
Fuel Pump Prime Time, my is set at 0 seconds, but I do have a prime?
I Set to 300 seconds to see if it would lengthen it but did not, also checked to see if it gave a "prime or run on" after shut down but didn't do that either.

    What is this for?

From what I was told, a rich mixture lowers temps. I remember the 91 starting to overheat once while driving and I noticed it being a complete dog which took my attention to the instrument cluster, at which point I noticed a high coolant temp. I ran this by someone once and they said it was dumping fuel to cool it down. I wouldn't think the extra fuel itself would have any noticeable effect on engine temps, unless it does run a cooler CC temp in a rich condition.

extra fuel DOES cool down the chamber due to evaporation or some other modern magic.

      heats up the exhaust though.

Yes for sure extra fuel cools CC temps, (see some Turbo'd track cars blowing black smoke during shifts, they dump fuel to cool engine)
I was just wondering if constantly running a overly rich mixture would raise temps causing KR just because my KR has dropped ever so slightly as I am raising the fuel trims closer to 0.

Anyone have any ideas why in my UVscan I never seem to be entering DE mode? doing 50mph in second, let off throttle to 0, would it not go into DE?

Any ideas why, with a stock tune/engine (besides running a 3400 tune for a 3500) I would get such KR? and be rich?
I would have thought KR stock would be lower and increase if I over tuned?

What about Spark Plugs? Any Delco recommendations?

the late 3400 tunes weren't so great.... GM maxed the hell out of the spark tables in an attempt to pull out better economy...

and if DE is anything like what it was in OBD1, it only lasts 1/8 of a second.... DFCO on the other hand...

Well, I am going to flash my latest file and drive this weekend, then move on to Spark then I guess.

I imagine, adjusting the Spark (a lot) will skew the Fuel trims a bit again and I will have to go back to them anyways?

probably... not sure how much the OBD2 stuff is effected by spark changes.
