  • Question 96 PCM to 97 PCM !

    Hi all, someone can tell me if the connections of 96 PCM 3100 Pontiac Grand Am, are equal to 97 PCM 3100 Monte Carlo? and if I should add some wire? there would be someone to solve this little problem, thanks in advance. Best Regards Francesco

      I can tell you I recently swapped my PCM. I have a 1996 Grand Prix 3100. I would go as far to say our PCM's are identical in wiring but I can not confirm that 100%.

      What I did was get wiring diagrams for both PCM yr/model and compare the two.

      I decided to put in a 1997 Lumina PCM for tuning purposes with HP Tuners as it is supported unlike the 96 GP.

      According to the wiring diagrams, I had to switch a few wires but my car is an anomaly and the wires were already switched for me (96 is a strange year).

      If you can confirm our PCM's are the same, you can do what I did. Just make sure these 3 wires are where they need to be.

      (1) 96 GP PCM CLEAR PIN#33 -> CLEAR PIN#35 for 97 PCM Lumina
      *it is a red wire for alternator control, must be in the right place

      (2) AND SWAP CLEAR PIN#47-48
      *I would double check these wires to be sure as they control the downstream O2 Sensor and you will fail emissions if wired wrong.

      Also, you may NOT need to swap these wires if your CLEAR PIN#33 red wire is already in PIN#35

      I was also told a Ventura?? PCM was an identical known swap but again, I can not confirm that.

      There are people here who can get you PCM pin/wire diagrams/lists to compare. If you ask nicely, lol

      The minds on this forum are genius. I haven't anything that could not be answered. Be sure to ask the right question and I'm sure you'll find your answer here.

      btw, what is the PCM swap for?
