  • Time for my OBD II this is the idea

I have a computer from a 96' grand prix that had a 4t60E in it,and I have the connectors that went to the computer, and the obdII plig from under the dash..
computer # is 16211539 or 16231964 mean anything to anyone?

I had a old 1.5 computer, that I took a heat gun to and removed the plugs from it,I am going to take the plugs from the 96' and solder them onto the plugs I removed from the 1.5 so I dont destroy my harness,or have to splice into it anyways..

Guess the only sensor I am really going to be lacking is the MAF..

Well finally started soldering today :/ Still have alot of work to do.. as far as cleaning things up.. Sorry about picture quality, taken with Htc innovation.. Looks like the whole homemade adapter is going to work just fine, the car did start and run for a little bit, then died, this happened several times,I assume because I don't have a MAF.. Unclear as of yet if any other sensors need to be changed..

That's what I'm doing only I'm going OBD1 with the DOHC PCM that controls the 4t60-e. Details in the obd1.5 to obd1 swap thread.... I won't have to add sensors or wires. Actually wont use a few sensors I have now.....

Could it be the security stuff shutting it off? Do you have a DHP programmer or something to tune it?

depending on how long it runs, it could be security, but as long as the PASSKEY II module didn't change from 95-96(and i don't think it did), it shouldn't be an issue...

well hopefully all I need is the MAF, going to the bone yard tomorrow,It starts and runs for maybe 5 seconds, enough to get a quick rev in,then dies as if the key was turned off.. If it is the passkey is there a way to disable it,I did have a passkey wire on my old ecm,and I did wire that up from the obdII so not sure.. maybe bypass it to be safe..

I thought about going obd I but figured there would be more tuning options for obd II but now goggling all night, and searching here,Looks like I am in bad shape for programming this beast..

i believe the only tuning package for the 96 PCM is DHP, i know HPT doesn't support it.

i would like to see a list of what all can be played with on the OBD2 PCMs.... for comparitive purposes anyway. i know what all can be played with on DF, i'd like to know why people like to gloat OBD2 over my "antiquated" system.

as for the 5 seconds, PASSKEY should kill it within a second or maybe 2, if it even lets it start, so i think that's not your issue.

Well if I wanted to bypass it,would it be the output from the computer through the correct resistors, and then to ground or to a positive ? I would rather leave it in place, seeing how I live in Memphis and all.. But for testing might be worth it..

Would the car just stall out because of a missing MAF?

i don't know how the OBD2 PCMs work as well as i know OBD1, but as long as there is a MAP sensor there, then it should fall back to the "minimum airflow" tables or use the MAP, not sure which.

as for bypassing PASSKEY, i'm not sure. you would need to ask someone else who plays with OBD2 about that...

Well I have my stock computer in atm,as the new one is no where near ready,as you can see from the pictures,But I am gonna go get a key made, and see how the car acts with original computer aftermarket key,and go from there..

There has got to be another way to tune this new comp,I also saw on moates, the g4 adapter, called and talked to the dude down there, and he said it should work, with using tuner cat, that's with the old obd1 puter though.. Now obd2 setup, surely there is a way with tunerpro to change variables on this darn thing,if not I just wasted my time..

                        LOL.

I don't know of a way using TP to tune it, but tunercats has some OBDII stuff, no idea what you need to interface it.

DHP (now defunct) supports that PCM though, and one from a 97 venture plugs in and has 2x the memory and more tables opened up in DHP. Find a used DHP and there you go.

HP tuner is still around, but they only support I think a 97 monte PCM for that. Plus it costs more than a used DHP, and then you have to buy "credits"...

                          you've got your wires twisted...

the G4 will NOT work for what you need. inside the obd1.5 PCM there are 2 very small FLASH EEPROMs soldered to the PCBs, 1 on each board. the G4 is meant for the very few 94-95 ECMs with a very small removeable MEMCAL unit instead of the fullsized one that is common from 1986-1993. the only ones i know of are a few PCMs for the 3.8.

if you want to tune it using the original PCM, call me in about 2 years, that's about how much time you will put into it to get a good hack written, if you can even figure out how to pull the BIN through the ALDL port.

tunerpro isn't meant for GM OBD2, therefore you will never find the XDF that would be required to tune it.

an OBD1 swap would be easy considering the skills you have demonstrated in this thread.

if you want to stick with the 96 OBD2 PCM, then your only option that i know of is DHP.

If obd1 swap is the way to go then so be it,Would need some tuning info and what ecm to buy, that has 4t60e.. N/p Just scanned my obdII computer cause the car felt slow, and timing was -20 :O wth? Little retarded there.. and its throwing a code of P1200,which is fuel injection circuit fault or something,I'm somewhat irritated at this point...

                            Obd1 here I come...
