Where is the best place to buy a chip burner,I did find the original thread, although alot of reading there,I am still reading, jeez that thread grew :P I assume the needed chip burner is in there, and the software needed to do it,and edit stuff like timing etc....

I want to thank the 60degree community, for everything, and the new ball of wax I am fixing to get into

the simplest to use is the BURN2 from moates. the cheapest is probably the willems, but i'm not sure where to pick that one up...

even though the willems is usually cheaper, it can do a LOT more than the burn2, but i have VERY limited knowledge of it. forcedfirebird(john) would know, he has one.

near the end of the thread, i posted a "starter pack" with quite a few things in it necessary for tuning. i'm not sure if i put my VE autotuners in there or not though, so i'll be posting an updated version of it again soon...

The Burn2 is probably the most user friendly if you are just burning chips for cars and not other electronic devices. The burn2 uses 1 usb cable, the williams uses usb and parallel cable. You can get them on ebay.

You can get the ostrich 2 from moates.net too and make changes real time.

for actual tuning, grab tunerpro v5. the XDF and ADX included in the pack are meant for it.

wow... you could have just gone to the JY and got a 97 ECM from a Monte Carlo, and then used that in conjunction with a HP tuner, OR find a used DHP and you would have been able to tune...

Its a shame no one knows this and the answer to EVERYTHING is "Go OBDI"

Also timing of -20 is correct, 96 and 97 ECM's display timing as a negative value, it is actually Advanced, NOT retarded. Fuel injection circuit fault means you wired something wrong.

SO really all your issues are NOT related to OBDII... once again the lack of knowledge with the application is giving the technology a bad name.

You are correct... It was robertisaar who made it sound like the 96 ECM was his only option and the only thing out there was DHP. You can also purchase a HPTuners used and get the credits reset. No one seems to note that's a possibility too.

Oh well, it's not my car.

i just said the only option for the 96 PCM was DHP, i didn't say it was the only PCM that could be used.

well it looks like the cheaper tuning option would be to use a obd1 computer,so that is what I am going to do,get one out of a buick century ,I so far have already started playing with tunerpro, there are alot of options,in there to play with... burn2 is probably more monetarily friendly

Century? Is that the A body with the crazy MAF?

You need a '9396 PCM to control the 4t60-e...

                              Century is an A...

but it's not that crazy. it's almost identical to the setup on the 94-95 LQ1, and subsequently, most 3800 motors before it.

and IIRC, that PCM will control a tranny as well, but 2 issues(for me anyways)

                              1. MAF
                              2. not as well documented as DF
