  • How to Tune for a few mods + Nitrous.

I have a 2000 Grand Am 3400 It's going to have ported and polished upper and lower intake mani's, stock intake with a K&N air filter 1 heat range colder plugs and a 50-75 wet shot of N2O. What should I do about tuning?

anyone live near the Raleigh, NC area that knows how to tune pcm's ?

I have a friend who LIVES in Raleigh NC... too bad I don't...

BUT depending on your setup you can find an old DHP unit for sale or get a HPTuner to do the tuning, I suggest tuning for your n/a setup FIRST get that dialed in and then tune for the Nitrous, which should ONLY consist of timing... your extra fuel needs should be handled by the wet shot itself... leaving it so you can run with NO nitrous and perform fine and not be overly rich or something.

When I add my 75-100 shot I'll be tuning the a/f by the nitrous jet in the system. I was told to never change the fuel jet supplied and tune it with the nitrous one... But I guess it can be done either way, BUT I will try my hardest to NOT touch my MAF and PE tables so when I don't use the bottle the car will still perform to its best n/a.

I shouldnt need much tuning for the ported intakes and k&n filter should I ? I know i mainly just need the timing retarded 2-3 degrees. But what I dont know is should the timing be adjusted through the whole rpm range or just at WOT between the rpm's the N2O will be used during?

I never retarded my timing... They typically say that for NOS setups because they already expect you to be running as much timing as possible and when you add N20 and extra fuel into the mix detonation at that timing mark is possible.. HOWEVER with these motors and stock tuning your not at the brink of detonation... So technically you could just run it as is as long as your WOT a/f ratio stays at a good level.

Not much would be needed for porting and K&N but these ecm's are not already tuned for performance, so you can tweak on that and make it perform better with stock parts alone.

Fuel map tweaking, PE enrichment tweaking, Dialing in your WOT a/f numbers to a more desired number, and also adding more spark to the WOT range and also cruse range for more mileage.

There are tons of things you can do to improve your performance over a stock tune.

'll have to look into that. I've been chatting back a forth with a guy from gmtuners.com Real nice guy and seems very willing to help me out. He recommended this http://intense-racing.com/Merchant2/...tegory_Code=IE along with a slight tune from him. Might check it out once i get the N2O installed and see how things are working. But first I gotta do the LIM gasket. .. UG.

Thats a waste of money... Why not just tune your spark table properly and not have to worry about it.

How would the spark table be tuned for both normal use and N2O use? when it needs to be retarded a few degrees for the N2O, If its retarded during normal operation performance will suffer.

That item i posted previously will allow me to go ahead and retard the timing when i am about to use the N2O then turn it back when the N2O is not in use. Seems/ed like a good idea to me.....

It takes all of 55sec to flash a bin file with a proper spark table... why mess with other tables that can screw other things up...

Air temp is used for more than just the spark retard IIRC.
