Get a DHP to reflash the ECM.

You are going to have to use DHP or HPTuners to delete out the codes that pop up for the auto trans.

Shift Solenoids, TCC, Input Shaft are the main ones.

Both sites dont say you can use their software on a pre 97 grand prix. My cars actually a 95 but I'm upgrading to obd2 and a 96 motor. Think the hp tuners software will work with my car?

I don't know what the difference between the 96 and 97 model years are, but looks like you will need a 97 ECM.

You will need to upgrade to OBDII. You should be able to edit the 96 ECM at least with DHP I know but a 97 ECM is better as it has double the memory and more options are opened up for you to edit.

Ok where is the ECM? Isnt it part of the PCM?

ECM is sometimes called the PCM. engine/powertrain control module. Since it controls the transmission too, hence the powertrain.

Oh so the ECM and PCM are the same thing?

Yeah they are the car's computer. BTW if you keep your OBD1.5 PCM/ECM and go to manual it will run and you won't have any check engine lights AFAIK, but you will get a little surging idle due to the automatic code. It's OBDII that will set lots of codes for trans slipping etc.

Well my current obd1.5 engine has a blown headgasket along with many other problems caused by the headgasket. If I'm getting a new motor I might as well get the obd2 version.

Also is there anything one can do over the other? And how much$ am I looking at?
