computer prom question

hello, are the proms in a 1990 cavalier 2.2 and a 3.1 cavalier the same prom inside the computer? i know the plugs are diffrent on the back of the computer but are the proms any diffrent? also is there a way to boost horsepower on the 2.2? i run oval dirt track and i need more power to get off the turns. details about the car, 2.2 automatic. thank you in advance, if anyone can help me or know where i can get this answered would be a great help. thank you
